Water introduction

Parent/Child

Age: 6 months - 4 years. Class size: 6 - 8 children. Session Length: 30 min/4 weeks.

Parent/Child is the traditional way of introducing infants and toddlers to the pool environment through the use of songs and games. The instructor will guide the parents on how to teach their children to be safe in the water and learn to swim. Students will develop different skills with their parent such as back floating, safe entry and exit, breath control, and kicking. As students become more comfortable with their instructor, we prepare children to break away from their parents and progress to independent swim lessons.

Water Intro 1

Age: 15 months - 3 years. Class size: 2 children. Session Length: 20 min/8 weeks.

Water Intro 1 is an alternative class to introduce young children to the water, where the parents do not get in the pool. Children under 15 months cannot start in this level, as certain developmental skills need to be developed before they are ready. We work to develop comfort, confidence, and independence in the water while using a bubble. This class moves slowly at first to allow the students time to adjust to the environment and instructor. After the children are comfortable, the class focuses on kicking, back floating, breath control, and safe entry and exit.

Water Intro 2

Age: 3 - 6 years. Class size: 2 children. Session Length: 30 min/8 weeks.

Water Intro 2 is for students fearful of the water who do not swim on their own at all, even with flotation assistance. Students that do not enter independently, put their face in the water, or do not have any instruction experience are eligible for this class. We work slowly with the children, allowing them to become comfortable and confident in the water with their instructor. Back floating, safe entry and exit, breath control, kicking, and independence are covered as the session progresses. The hope is that students spend one session here before progressing to the larger group class.

Water Intro 3

Age: 7 - 10 years. Class size: 2 children. Session Length: 30 min/8 weeks.

Water Intro 3 is for older children who are fearful of the water and have not swam on their own before. Students that cannot swim without floatation assistance, put their face in the water, or do not have any instruction experience are eligible for this class. We work slowly with the children, allowing them to become comfortable and confident in the water with their instructor. Back floating, entering independently, breath control, submersion, and kicking are covered as the session progresses. The hope is that students spend one session here before progressing to the larger group class.
